Huge mould haul!

This month I was lucky enough to spot some mould listings on eBay for people looking to de-stash their craft rooms or unfortunately closing down their small business. The listings ranged from one or two moulds right up to someone listing the contents of their entire craft room!

One listing that caught my eye was a photograph of a tabletop literally covered in moulds, there were so many that they couldn't be listed individually. I purchased a single job lot and they were due to be delivered that same week.

When the box arrived, it was huge! After struggling to get through the excellent packaging (loads of tape keeping the box closed, and then wrapped in a bin bag with another layer of packing tape), boy, was I surprised!

I'd estimated that there was around 20 - 30 moulds in the photographs, which I thought was a pretty good bargain for the £50 that I'd paid. Once I'd completed emptied the box, there was actually around 70 individual moulds (approx. figure as I donated some of the moulds to a friend).

Here's just some of the larger mould sets that were included, with an Amazon guide price if bought new:

  • 3 piece perpetual calendar (approx. £9.92)

  • Round wine glass tray (£15.00)

  • Butterfly Storage Jar (£21.95)

  • Chess Set (£15.99)

  • Stag jewellery tray (£21.90)

  • Owl candle holder (£12.99)

  • Dragon Eyes, Skin and Claws (£20.00)

  • Windchime Kit (£7.99)

  • 12 inch round tray (£12.00)

  • 5 piece flower coasters (£21.00)

  • Domino Set (£6.00)

  • 12 inch Geode Rectangular Tray (£9.99)

  • 14 inch Rectangular Tray (£14.00)

  • Agate slice coaster set (£12.99)

And many more....!

I've tried to go through Amazon and eBay to try and get a rough idea of the complete 'buy new' price, and not including the moulds that I donated to a friend and a few moulds that I just couldn't track down, I've estimated that the moulds I received would have cost around £340 if purchased new, so I think I've been very lucky!

I'm already planning my next project with some of the new moulds. The Perpetual calendar takes around 350ml of mixed Epoxy Resin, I was hoping to be able to make the two solid pieces from StoneCast, but it turned out to be very brittle and cracked when I attempted to demould. So it looks like all three pieces will need to be poured from Epoxy, which will be quite a lot of Resin!
